About the Project

The story of "The House of Pearly Beetle Island" began in 2004, inspired by the illustration on the right side of this page.  It was sketched by the author's best friend, Sylvia Bingham, after the two friends visited China Camp State Park in California, where visitors can look out and see miniature islands just big enough for seabirds.

Jill fell in love with the idea of the big house on the island, and began to imagine who might live there.  She created the character of Mona Berg who lives in the "The House of Pearly Beetle Island".  After Sylvia passed away in 2009, Jill continued to add chapters over time.  The story of Mona and Pearly Beetle Island grew, and has been loved for years by family and friends.

The House of Pearly Beetle Island

During this uncertain time, we wanted to share the story of a strong girl’s adventures with the world to keep everyone company.  This story is perfect to read to your children or all by yourself.  Mona and her friends meet swashbuckling pirates, cure the effects of a suspicious curse, and reunite long lost lovers.  You will have something to look forward to every week, as we will be updating with a new chapter every Friday!

"The House of Pearly Beetle Island" was truly a family effort.  It was written by Jill Collins Nosse and edited by her mother.  This website was created by Jill’s sister.  We hope you will delight in Mona’s adventures, and gain as much pleasure from the story of Mona and Pearly Beetle Island as we do.
